Also serving Worcester

At AES Roofing Contractors Ltd. we also offer flat roof repairs throughout Worcester, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove and the surrounding areas. Many flat roof repairs are needed due to poor installation, weathering and temperature fluctuation, which can cause cracking resulting in a leak. Types of Flat Roof

Built Up Felt Roofs (Flat Roofs)

Traditional felt roofs, as industry standard are normally built up of three layers of bituminous felt. The layers are bonded together with heated bitumen with a reflective finish (such as mineral spa chipping, stone chippings or solar paint). The reflective material is designed to protect the roof from extreme seasonal temperatures.

The long-term performance of built up felt roof systems depend on the specification and manufacture of the roofing material together with the skilled installation by our fully trained roofers. Using AES Roofing Contractors you can be assured of top quality and performance roofing system.

A design service is also available to rectify existing bad designs.

Modern high performance felts incorporate polyester membranes which give excellent strength, durability and life expectancy. Bitumen performance can also be improved with the introduction of polymers to increase flexibility, and further extend the life of the roof. These high performance systems, when correctly and expertly installed can return life expectancies in excess of 30 years.

Single Ply Roofing (Rubber EPDM or PVC)

As the title would suggest this type of roof system usually comprises of just one layer of membrane. Normally, single ply systems are installed without the use of naked flame or hot bitumen, and are therefore the favoured covering for projects where the use of naked flame is not permitted. These roof systems offer the latest in performance and can return life expectancies in excess of 40 / 50 years.

These products can also lend themselves to other areas of waterproofing such as gutter linings (for guttering), vertical cladding, pond lining etc.

GRP Roofs (Glass Reinforced Polyester)

After being discovered by accident in the 1950's GRP has developed into a product that has been used in applications worldwide. Products such as garden ponds, pools, boats, canoes etc have all been made from GRP.

In the roofing industry a GRP covering is formed using resins from the polyester family. These are laminated with a fibre glass matt to build up a waterproof construction. The long-term performance of the product depends on the laminate construction and the skill of the roofers carrying out the installation.

AES Ltd has been involved with GRP roofing since the mid 1970's and have completed hundreds of installations. Now AES are approved installers of the TopSeal GRP roof system, so, if you are considering GRP roofing or you have one installed by other roof companies that have failed, call the experts in this field - AES Roofing Contractors Ltd.

Liquid Roofing

A liquid applied system usually comprises of coated layers over a reinforcing membrane. These systems are normally applied over existing coverings (after suitable preparation), thus negating the requirement to strip and expose roof areas. Liquid coatings are also used to waterproof penetrations through roof coverings, such as pipes and ductwork, as well as many other applications.

Insulation Requirements

The building industry uses the terms WARM ROOF and COLD ROOF to describe the two main types of roof insulation.

Warm Roof

This type of construction has the insulation above the roof deck, thus keeping the deck 'WARM' and usually the most satisfactory construction for domestic properties as it avoids the need for ventilation of the roof structure. In the majority of new build flat roofs this system is preferred.

Cold Roof

Many existing residential flat roofs have the insulation laid between the roof joists directly above the ceiling. This design allows the deck to become 'COLD'. Due to their design it is seen as good practice that this construction of roof is ventilated to reduce the risk of condensation forming in the void above the insulation and under the decking.

Warm roof construction is now considered normal practice for new buildings. However, if you have an existing cold roof there may be no need to change it. Many existing cold roofs exist and function well for many years.
